I picked up a Model 56 mower today for $80 bucks Canadian (that is $71.40 USD!!
Started on the second pull and mowed about a half an acre of grass.
I am pleased as heck!!

Here are some pics and some questions.
Is a new motor shroud available?
How about a seat?
Is there usually a key for these?
I have gas coming out of a small hole on the carb when I fill with gas. Pouring out.

Take the carb apart and clean it your float is stuck. Carb kits and gaskets are available from any Techumseh dealer about $9

Thanks for the pictures. I bought my 56 new in 1972 and it is still in use (Johannesburg, South Africa). It has only 2 forward gears. Yours is a later model and as far a I know the motor never had a shroud - the noise abatement laws came after the 56.
You can buy a seat cover JD part number TY24331. If it has electric start it will have a key, else not.

I'm not sure if I read your post correctly. Are you referring to the cover with the missing piece on the corner? I would fix that with fibreglass. Else ask on Ebay.

The shrouds are NLA from JD, better off finding another one or repair as David says above.

i know this post is a little older but there is a guy named Steve on here and he has one he was gonna let me have for shipping cost only don't know if he still has it or his last name but if he does im sure he might do the same for ya i couldnt use it due to mine has a replacement motor on it and the gas tank is on the opposite side

..but the motor is actually a higher horse power which has come in handy with all the rain we have gotten lately ...hope this helps...
