Anyone know how the drive pulley comes off the 38 deck for a 110? It is welded on the bottom and I'm not sure it is suppossed to be that way. Im inclined to take a puller to it but scared its not meant for that.

Just checking, but there is a sleeve that the shaft presses into. That would be welded to the deck around the outside. It shouldn't be welded at the end. If it is welded at the end, I think an angle grinder should be able to get rid of the weld.

Someone had welded mine also. I used a grinder to take off the weld. Then I found out why it was welded. The shaft which should be pressed in was loose. So what I did to secure the new shaft was to drill a hole in the deck where the shaft slides in. I then tapped it and used a set screw with loctite to secure it.

Ok, the guy I picked the mower up from used a lot of "ingenuity" so to say when he fixed things. It's been a bit of a puzzle to try and work on someone else's project. I've been trying to post a picture but the file is too large, and Im working with my phone here.

I think I may just grind this one off and spot weld the new one back in place since it has already been done. I don't believe the sleeve which the shaft slides into on mine is correct either. It is about 2.5 inches in diameter.

Well I can't seem to get a picture to upload. I really wanted someone to take a look before I started grinding. Does anyone have a picture of the underside of their round fender deck handy? Especially a close up of where the drive pulley sticks through? Thanks for all of your help!

I guess my hold up is if the pulley is a press fit over the bearings is it possible to to just pull the pulley and bearings off the top side of the shaft, press the bearings out of the pulley and replace them, and then press the pulley back down over the shaft? I looked on John Deeres website and I can find the parts list for the 39 deck, but mine is a 38. Are they identical other than 1 inch?

You pretty much have to take the pulley bearing assembly out of the deck and use a press to push the bearing shaft assembly out of the pulley and also to press the new bearing shaft assembly into the pulley before installing it in the deck. Paul to get a picture upload you need to make it physically sized 640 x 480 and under 75 KB in size. That means you reduce the quality of the picture not the actual pictures physical size. If you are using a camera take the picture at the lowest quality you can to start with and then use a resizing program to reduce more if necessary. A 5 Mega pixel camera is more than the quality you need for on line posting. Roger

Ok, Ill try and change the settings on my camera next time and see of that helps. Thank you all again for your replys, Its some real nice weather we have in Kansas today so I went outside and ground the weld off and was able to hammer out the shaft. Looks like I was making a big deal out of nothing as usual for me! It looks like it will be easy to press the new one in and just put a small spot weld to lock it in place.
