Does anyone know what the right camshaft casting numbers are for the B43E, B43G, and B48G? I know the P engines used a 170-4100 in the P218, and a 170-4101 in the P220, but I need the numbers for the B engines. Thanks

Hi Cliff,
The B43G and B48G engines I am currently rebuilding have the same camshaft with casting number 170-3140. Sorry, I do not have a B43E. Jdparts has the same camshaft part number for the B43G and B48G, but a different number for the B43E.
Regards,
Harold

the 170-3140 was used in the BF, BG
B43M, B48M, B43G and B48G.
the above cams are SO CLOSE to the P 220
cam that it is not worth mentioning.

the B43E cam is 170-2871. ( has a fuel pump lobe)
it is actually a gen set cam. ( a real POOCH )
the P 216-218 came is WAY better than the B43E cam.
thank you boomer

Cliff,
I worked on a B43E and B43G not long ago and it seems like the G cam had more lift and required a cam bearing with a notch in it to allow for clearance to install the cam. Not so with the E, I used a bearing without a notch and the cam went in fine. So... E has less lift and i would also imagine less duration which makes the E 16 hp. Other guys know more than me but it seems it was a cam and carb jet change to get the G to 18 hp.
Good luck with the rebuild! Jon
