I have no use for this, nor room for it...but it is a sore temptation due to location:
Am I nuts? How much trailer required? Hard to move if not running? Learning curve for a grey beard novice?
Thanks in advance.

An L weighs about 1500 to 1600 lbs, unless the tires are loaded. You can put them on a small trailer, they're about 91 inches long. Below I'm attaching some literature on them.

Since you say it's a 38, it could be an unstyled or a style L since it was mid '38 that Deere came out with the style L.

I have a later L since it's an electric start one. Unfortunately the id tag is missing, so I can't determine the exact year, but it's newer than a 41.

Seems like everyone up here just wants to beat me down on price without looking at anything. I encourage everyone to come kick the tires, drive it and then we’ll talk about money. Idk maybe it’s me 🤷‍♂️🤣

Zero bids 2 days into the auction...3 days left to go. Now the seller is welcoming a visit to inspect in person. Too bad we are closing roads here in NE Tejas, just south of the Indian Nations. Ice storm shaping up...guess who's following his own advice to the public? Stay home, stay safe...

Interesting little tractor, kinda neat. In my area you can get way more tractor for $1500. If the seller doesn't want you to look at it, ask for a video of it running. Granted it still doesn't compare to hearing/seeing/touching in person. You hear a lot of ebay horror stories of someone traveling half a day to get a shinny vintage tractor they won only to pull into a junk yard looking place and seeing the tractor all beat up, in pieces and in the corner of shed. Then when the seller is confronted they use the excuse their business partner must have posted the picture. If I were you I'd pass. Just seems like some red flags. I looked at an A a year ago. There were decent pictures of it online, and I talked with the guy on the phone who seemed really decent. Of course when I pulled in with the truck and trailer, the guy was no where to be found, the tractor was buried/blocked in, it was not in the condition as the seller mentioned on the phone, I found more blemishes and mechanical issues that weren't visible in the pictures and it wasn't up and running waiting for me as promised. The guy returned my phone call when I was leaving to tell me he was getting his skidloader up the road to push it up on the trailer for me......even though 3 days earlier he said it was turn key ready.

This hobby is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. The B I bought, the gentleman was very happy to see it go to a good home, we talked for over an hour and he walked me around his property and collection. He just didn't want me in and out or a quick sale of the tractor.

I say move on, but that's just me.

A good looking L, LA, or a LI will bring some pretty good money, especially if it's complete, in good mechanical condition and the ID tag isn't missing. I seen them bring more money than an A or B in similar shape at auctions.

I have a '46 LA. It is a nice little tractor. I mostly take it to shows. I would say they are worth $2000-$4000 depending on condition, options etc. I tend to agree with comments above. Red Flag if you cant look at it and drive it if running. I drove mine around for 10-15 minutes before closing the deal - checked the gears, brakes, etc.

No bids and 90 mins left...will probably let it slide...too many unanswered questions on my part and no response from seller.
All part of the hunt. I learned a long time ago even if it's frustrating, it's best/smart to walk away on somethings.......I would've saved myself some extra headaches, money, and an angry wife if I would've learned that sooner though. Seems like the seller just wanted a quick sale, but maybe was afraid of dealing with the typical no shows, late arrivals, tire kickers, low ball offers, or was a complete jerk and figured just through it up on auction quick and not deal with anyone. I had my fair share of people who didn't want to work with me on a set up time to view their item, or wheel and deal on pricing, but it feels great to get a message from them 2 months to 2 years later saying they'll take my offer and I just laugh at them and tell them I found something better, closer, and cheaper. Good luck on your hunt.

Relisted...watching but wary. Going after a 322 Saturday instead. :p
And to think the guy could've had it sold and gone by now. I'd message him " I see you didn't have any luck on the auction NOW can I look at it?" Or " I see you didn't sell the tractor. 1200 as is site unseen"

I'm sure you'd get as much use and fun if not more out of the 322.

Yes there was a few people I delt with who thought were mechanics, or had friends who thought they were, or apraisers who seriously offered 1500.00 less on an item because " it's 7 years old"

I think the top 3 dumbest people I ever dealt with was selling my 2 atv's. One was 7 years old and looked and ran brand new. The other was about 20 years old, it looked decent but didn't run. Everyone wanted the cheaper non running one. 1 guy pushed it onto his trailer and said " I'm going take it to my buddy's and see what's wrong with it, then come back and pay you if I want it" another guy who you could tell didn't know a screw driver from a wrench and said " can I come over and work on it at night with your tools and when I get it running I'll buy it" or a guy who comes over to buy my sport racing atv. Wearing flip flops not knowing how to shift upset that " it hurts my feet when I shift, it's not shifting right, and doesn't have a winch or plow"...........that was back when my tolerance was a little bit higher.
