Hello. I'm having issues with the bolts that hold the front axle anchors to the frame. They keep backing off and falling out. Then my front axle starts coming off. Not good, and this is the third time in 6 months..

I'm using the recommended 5/16 x 3/4 bolts with spring lock washers and tightening them down as hard as my socket set will get. I have yet to use a cheater bar on them.

Is there a specific trick to this I'm missing? I'm considering locktite, but just wondered if there is a specific torque I should be using, or if I'm missing something that could be causing this issue.

Tightning them down after every mowing could be an option, but it's a tight fit to get to the back ones because the electric pto is in the way. I'd prefer to solve the problem rather than do this..

Unfortunately there is no way to get a nut on the back end. The bolts don't come out the back of the anchor, and if I got longer ones there would be clearance issues with the axle.

I've attached the JDParts diagram which hopefully does a better job of describing the arrangement than I can.... #7 is the bolt, and #8 is the anchor. There is an anchor on the front and back of the threaded rod on top of the axle.

Good to know on the blue locktite. The guy at the hardware store tried to sell me red - I held off because when he read off the suggested uses for red it seemed a little heavy duty for my needs.

1972 110 painting project. This tractor has hydraulic lift. What color should the heat shields on top of engine and around the muffler be? Or should they be painted at all? Parts of mine are green. I don't think that's right. I want it like factory.
