I recently installed a point saver in my 1983 318. It was running good I just heard so much good about them that I had to have one. The install went good & it ran better than ever for about two hours and suddenly quit - no spark. I double checked all connections & even though the coil checked out ok I ordered & installed the Kirk dual yellow coil & plug wires - still no spark. Could this be the points as I did not replace them when installing the point saver because it was running well prior to the point saver install. On one side of the new coil I have 12volts on the other I have 6 volts with the switch on. thanks for any help with this Alan

I think he only does e-mail. I believe in the instructions David tells you to put in new points at the time of installation. My 214 is now on its 10th year with one of the first 25 points savers. In that time I have had one problem(?) Even though the points were/are like new the points push rod still wears and in my case that closed the points gap. Reset the points back to .020 and it started back up. Took about 6 years and several hundred hours for that to happen. I would do the new points or at least make sure the gap is still correct. New points will have fresh clean conductive surfaces, as a transistor controlled ignition operates at greatly reduced current, any discharge erosion on the points is resistance and can interfere with the TCI, at least clean the points with fine emery and regap old used points

I second installing new points. It doesn't take much corrosion or moisture to stop the spark. You might try cleaning the points by dragging a dollar bill through them while they are closed. That might get you by until you can get a new set.

Later,
Justin
