I think I've read every post on adding PS to a 140 or 300 series. Still not sure which is the best and why. I've already decided to sub a 314 left spindle and 314 tie rod then mount the cylinder on the side a'la 318. So many threads, so few pix. Still haven't seen how the steering control valve is mounted in under the battery. The last question is where is the preferred mounting place for a fluid cooler. I swear I'll take pictures thru this project.

Here's a couple pics of the mount on my 314. The column sticks out slightly to the right but you wouldn't notice it if I didn't point it out. I used a 318 orbital valve and a 345 cylinder and made a mount for the cylinder. Sorry, no pic of that.

Here's a couple pictures of my valve mount in a 1969 140. I used a 5 port valve from a 318. To get the steering wheel in the original position, the center frame portion under the pedestal has to be moved over 1/4 - 3/8" (don't quite remember, but 1/2 the extra width of the steering valve compared to the old steering box.)

The battery box comes right up to the steering valve.

Thanks Cliff! My 140 will be the next if I keep it. If there's a mod that might make 140 more desirable, power steering will probably be more attractive to the average user than H3 hydraulics.

I'd thought about doing the 140 instead of the 300 and selling the 140 to finance this, but the 300 is such a brute . May try to figure out a way to do both and sell the 314. Too many projects, too little cash. Was just reminded that I have to rebuild the baby blue ZTR's cone drive before spring too. A necessity since the lawn looks a little like a pinball machine and not even power steering will help that much.

Sometimes I end out mowing when it's over 90 here so I'm afraid not to use a cooler. There's lots of space in back on the 140, but it's going to be tight on the 300. By the way, are you some kind of tube bending guru?

5 port valve on the way. The rest of the parts will be collected by the time I'm ready to tear into it. Still have to do the ztr drive and put the governor gear in the 140 before i tear anything else apart.

IF you're really that patient, you must get excited watching paint dry. I almost lost it adding the set front remote lines and I didn't have to bend anything. About how much line does it actually take? The only 2 I have are the hoses on the cylinder I just picked up on eBay, Same seller I got the valve from and same tractor.

Watching paint dry does not thrill me. There's no challenge in that! Don't exactly remember but I think I used around 15' of line total including my screw-ups. I did have the tractor down pretty bare so I didn't have to work around the engine and misc. stuff in the way. I found a way to plumb 317 H2 hydraulics in and keep the rear hydraulics that were already there. Also added dual brakes from a 317. It's pretty tight down there. Hopefully when I get the deck done everything clears. My goal was to get most everything a 318 has without needing to rebuild a pricy Onan.

The 300 already has H-2 hydraulics and I added the left front so I know space is at a real premium down there. Luckily these aren't really large lines. I'd already decided to do this when I have the engine out for a few modifications. I'm really not looking forward to this. The end results (no more bicep workouts) are about all that keeps me into this. My 140 is sitting in the garage and screaming "ME FIRST" but that's not gonna happen any time soon.
