I have an intermittent rattle type noise I can feel in the steering wheel at certain positions when driving. It is something I cannot make happen all of the time. If feels/sounds like something is rubbing on something that is rotating.

Any clue??

Does this do it wit the deck on or off? Or both!

The deck is on.

Not sure if the PTO is running or not.

Check the drive shaft. Similar problem with Dad's 317 and could never figure it out. One day started mowing and part way through it got so bad the whole tractor was shaking. Looked closer at it, pulled the fender deck off to get a better look at all the rotating assemblies and found that the front u-joint was barely holding on. Was so out of whack it was hitting the steering shaft. Could see shiney metal on the drive shaft right where the steering shaft passed close to it.

Is the fender deck hard to take off?

I'd say the drive shaft too. I had the same problem with my 317

Driveshaft. No, the fender is not hard to take off. Don't be scared of it. Remember...If a man built it, a man can fix it.
