Happy New Year all! I'm looking to get my K321 14h.p. Kohler rebuilt here in Mass. Does anybody know a reliable person in the New England area? Also, I'm curious what the going rate would be. I've heard rates between $350.00 and $650.00. This would be the engines first overhaul. I don't know if that affects price. I'm wondering as well if it matters that I pulled the engine already... Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks. Steve

Steve,
I'll email you.
Chuck Szymcik was one of my customers from Mass. He brought down a 140 to my place in CT and I did the engine (remove, rebuild, reinstall). Hey Chuck, any pictures since you fixed it up?

Matt,
For pure mowing, I would choose the F510, but it does have its drawbacks. The engine and transmission were one unit so repowering these with something different isn't possible. And they not good for anything else but mowing. The LX on the other hand was top of the line lawn tractors for their day and have no known issues, except the hood hinges are prone to breakage. I'm also not sure if these engines shared the Kawasaki plastic cam gear issues seen on the 4X5 and 3X5 series in that era.

I've got an LX178 amongst the bunch... along with a 214, a 67 110, a Case 444 and a 16HP Ford/Jacobson that I'm still trying to decipher exactly what it is. Now, my LX178 just fires up, runs nice and quiet especially compared to my other tractors.. and is the only one my other half will even use. No problems whatsoever except regular maintenance and one new belt. From what I can find out the 15HP Kawasaki does NOT have the plastic cam gear.
Love those old "tanks" tho...
