I just did this. I bought a 332 and swapped the 3 point hitch and pto from my 318 onto it. You have to pull off the rear tin and lift the gas tank up and swing it out of the way. You should also disconnect the battery. Unplug the wire going to the clutch and undo the bolt that holds the small bracket that keeps the clutch from spinning. This is where the ground was on mine.
Now remove the three bolts going through the transfer case(the large bolts) and the whole thing should pull out. Next is the harness. Take out the battery and the black cross member that the hood latch is on. Remove the nut holding the switch on the instrument panel and push it through. Twist out the indicator socket for the rear clutch. All of this should terminate in a brown connector, pull this apart there should also be a black ground connector. From all of this there will be a blue wire that went to the clutch. Carefully snake it back out. You may have to cut some wire ties. Now the part I'm not sure of. The brown connector has a jumper plugged into it when the clutch option is not used. I had this because I was swapping from one tractor to the other. Unless you are doing the same this will be missing. Maybe someone else can tell us what that is for.

Thanks John. I am removing it with the idea of selling it to someone who can use it. Another question...I notice a rattling sound after turning the tractor off. I didn't hear that on my previous 318. I am assuming this is the rear PTO even though it isn't turned on at the time. Am I correct?

Leigh and John,

The jumper at the socket for the rear PTO switch socket when that switch is not installed is necessary to complete the SAFETY circuit for sensing the PTO(s) is/are not turned on when the seat is unoccupied, or when you are starting the tractor.

Not sure about the rattle could the side panels. If they are loose they tend to be noisy. Also check for slop where the drive shaft attaches to the transmission. I had to upgrade my 318 to the new style that clamps together as it was worn and sloppy. If you are selling the pto make sure you get the wire harness removed as the next owner will probably need it. Maybe the next owner will give you the jumper plug I was talking about.

The noise is not the side panels....and when I greased the drive shaft everything seemed nice and tight there. It's kind of a light a metal on metal sound. I assumed part of the PTO was always turning and then the clutch would engage the rear drive shaft when the switch was thrown. My thought was these parts were rattling together under deceleration?
