Scott, in all honesty your best bet is to buy the jdleds replacement led light set. I put a set in my tractor last winter and it was a night and day difference. There are others on the site that have used them as well and I have not heard anyone having any problems with them. The only bad thing is they are $120 for the set but I would do it again if I buy another tractor I intend to use at night.

Justin do you have a picture of your LED lights installed from the inside of your hood or possibly the LEDs in the bulb holders themselves? I really want to get a set of these but I just can't seem to wrap my head around his they fit in the bulb holders.

Joe I will try and get some pictures tomorrow night of how they mount if you still need them. The whole stock light harness pulls out and is replaced with the new harness with the machined aluminum heat sinks. They just turn and lock the same as the stock ones.

Yep-they replace the whole front harness. If you have bad chrome in the light housing it doens't mater with these. I finally got my second set.

Jeff, I've tried those type of "bulbs" with near-zero success rate. The heat and vibration actually causes them to come apart.

I'm working on integrating one of those LED lightbars into the headlight bezel now, hidden behind the OEM lens, should maintain much of the original look with significantly more output.

The key to getting any bulb to last (or not) is the way it is mounted. Standard bulbs can be used long term, if they are mounted by a spring that is wrapped around the base and soldered where needed. Attach (solder) the spring to a large washer and then align/attach (rivet) the washer to a strip of rubber which spans to the hood attach points. Install wire as needed to tie them all together while creating a loop of continuity.

This is a general explanation I have done with success for given situations.

It is generally known that there are LED "drop-in replacement bulbs in place of the familiar 1156 bulb

Use them on trucks/tractors/school buses.

No, I don't know how much brighter they are. I can only say they are "quite a bit brighter".

They cost 8.99/bulb.

Jeff,

Did you blow out the light housing, even washed and rinsed and blowout again? I thought mine had yellowed and browned, turns out a lot of dirt, looks like another yearly maintenance item for the list. Used an appropriately sized bottle brush also. Headlights units are not sealed on some models, which allows a lot of dust/dirt in!

Trying out the least expensive solution first. Then may try these:

Finally, The TractorLEDs will be the if the others do not work out.

In the last 2 items, it is the focusing lens that helps with the light throw (think of Niagara Falls, those lights all have focusing lens)

A couple of thoughts on LED headlights:
1. Some 1156 LED lamps are designed to radiate light in all directions like the incandescent 1156. For this application you want a lamp that directs light in one direction, which makes the condition of the tractor's silver reflector unimportant.
2. LED lamps need an effective heat sink if they are to be used continuously. Some LED lamps have no visible heat sink, which may be fine for a back-up light or turn signal application where the lamp is only on briefly. Headlights will be used continuously and heat will build up unless there is a heat sink, typically aluminum fins of some sort, to dissipate heat.

Hope this helps you when you are looking at LED options to replace your 1156 lamps.
