I am just wondering on Deeres black seats, what is the correct color?
Medium Gloss is my guess, but I want it right. Its for my 71 140.

Kent Ortman...how about you? What do you think I should use?

Im gettin anxious to get this thing painted.
I want to do it tomorrow, so I can cover the seat, or at least try, over the weekend...

The seat pan on my 140 has more gloss than blitz black. I painted my 300 seat pan with med. gloss black and believe thats the color on my 140 pan. Med. Gloss looks very good on the pan not sure if it is exactly the factory color though.

Hi Jim. Since the only original black seat pan for a 140 would have been for a Patio tractor, I really don't know what shade those were (I just haven't been around enough original ones to compare). All other 140's (and all 1968-1974 110, 112 & 120's that were "green") used a green seat pan. I've never had to repaint the 1975 and later seats as I have always bought the "generic" JD replacement seat TY15863 to put on my later tractors (and to use on my earlier tractors as a "user" seat, saving the original, smooth cushion seats just for showing). I guess I'm also old school and like the green color for those (as well as attachments like the integral and 3pt hitches) compared to the black.

Kent, it was/is my understanding that the 71s were black.
I have the original seat, and its on a black pan...
Is that not correct?

Hi Jim. Every piece of sales literature I own and have ever looked at for 1968-1974 110-140 tractors shows green seat pans for everything but Patio's (and those have the "textured" finish to them). Also, Patio tractors were the only ones to have a leaping deer decal on the seat pan during that time frame, the green pans were bare. I do know that you cannot always use sales literature as 100% correct, but in this case I would call it close enough.
