I am replacing the hydro suction hose on my 430. The hose has no spring inside of it. The Deere parts catalog shows that a spring goes inside the hose. I have been operating my 430 for years apparently without the spring. I assume the spring is to prevent collapse of the hose. The spring is still available from Deere. Should I be safe and purchase the spring to install in the new OEM suction hose? I have no idea if the lack of a spring even affected the hydro performance over the previous years.

Hi David, Yes, a collapsed or semi collapsed hose can cause pump failure. Just like no oil in your engine.
I don't know JDs price, but I saw some last week at Advance Auto Parts in their HELP-LINE. I think it was $10 for a multi-pack in different diameters. later, JZM

David,
Thank you for posting this. I had gotten a suction hose for my 330 last week and read this thread. I missed seeing the spring in my parts book. Ordered it today and will install when I service the hydro and change the suction hose.

Joe,
You are welcome. I just picked my spring up today. Since one was not in my suction hose when I took it off, I wrongfully assumed that it was not necessary to put one back in. Glad I reached out to members on this forum before I made the mistake of reinstalling the hose back in without the spring! Members here have been so helpful to me while I put my 430 back together. I have learned quite a lot and it's appreciated!
