I bought a 1986 318 this summer and have solved a lot of problems by searching the archives but no luck with this issue. What is the correct orientation of the positive battery cable lug on my starter mounted solenoid? Now it's at 6 o'clock, bent straight back and is almost pinned between the starter and the frame crossmember. It was rubbing the frame. I was able to make a little space but it don't look right.

Greg, here is how the +cable is placed on this P218 Onan powered 316.

Note placement of the starter improvement kit also. I have a 318 that has the identical setup.

Thanks John! Your insulation is on the firewall!
So it looks like the lug should be at about 3 o'clock with the cable running forward out of the starter area. Mine has the starter improvement relay bolted to the outside of the frame under the side cover.
