Had my neighbor tune up my 420 and wow what a difference, now the only issue I have is the throttle vibrates itself down to 2/3 throttle after about 2 minutes. Any quick fixes or a reason why it moves down so easily?

I just bought my second 455. I didn't need another tractor, but it came with a 3 point, rear PTO, 450 tiller, JD scraper blade, and a 4 way front blade. This tractor is a 96 and my 1st 455 is a 95 model. I want to swap the hitch and rear PTO from the 96 over to the 95. Can someone send me installation/removal instructions? After I remove the 96 hardware, I will have a 455 for sale..
It would probably be as easy to swap the two complete transmissions. JD still sells the rear PTO kit for around $880, but they do not sell any individual parts. I checked with my parts guy and he said I was correct! If you need to replace a part in the rear PTO, you cannot get one. I checked TM1517 and it does have information on the removal and installation of the rear 540 PTO.
You can go to Tuff Torq's web site and get most of the parts as the K91 is nearly the same as the K92 that simplicity uses
I have ordered parts direct from them
John, I found out you are correct. 93-95 is one harness and 96- is another. Wouldn't you know mine had to be different!
I called my JD dealer just to see what they would charge to swap them for me. They quoted me $1000. Ouch! Guess I will have to find time to do this project myself!
Chad - I have the brand new (NOS) wiring harness for the 93-95 (if you need it) listed in the classified ads . But first , Being as how the transition occurred around that time (95-96) , check to B sure your ninety-five doesn't have the newer wiring change . Best way to know is : if it has the pto module installed at dash , and has the jumper wire connector at the front inside frame of left rear wheel for two wire plugs going to the rear pto itself . The old style did not have the separate module , and there was no break in the wiring inside the frame just forward of the left rear wheel . Some 95s can have the new style wiring , from what I read . Some may not ; but its all about the serial no.s. as follows : basically anything over 30,000 serial no should be new style with two plug connector at forward inside frame of r/r wheel , and will have the rear pto module (black plastic box) in place in right side dash pedestal just under the voltage regulator . The old Up < 30K serial no wont have this module . Its built into the old wiring harness .
Like I say..., I have one if you want/need it . They are obsolete now thru Deere .
Old style <30K serial no . The big bulge you see in the harness has the circuitry that the newer style module replaced .
NLA , but I have a 93' and rear pto kit to install , so found two of these . I could maybe spare one . Or you can buy the retro-fit wiring harness # am-121071 at 160 dollars + tax , and
module am-120840 at 65.oo + tax from deere .
Dave
Here is how Deere made the new 96 and up rear pto Kit Back-wards compatible (at your expense) = around 225 bucks to make a < 30K tractor work without the original obsolete harness I have . Either way gets you the same end result . Same thing , only different ..., I say .
Ps. All hard parts are basically the same , with only a couple non-noteworthy revisions here and there through-out the years .
I just installed a rear PTO on a 96 455 I bought from a guy, the pto module was not included that goes behind the dash, I installed the pto and everything works as it should so what does the module do?
Steve -
The module lets you operate the rear pto (only) "off seat" with parking brake on , among other safety considerations . Can't explain much more than that , cause that's all I can figure .
I thought I had read somewhere that the module controls the dash lights ... but can't find that right now. There are 2 pto lights on the dash, one for front pto and one for rear pto. The front pto light should come on with the pto lever on back in the front or the both position and the separate rear pto light should come on in the rear or both positions.
