Where is a good place to get a throttle shaft kit for a 140 with the Kohler K321? I checked with Deere and it only has a throttle and choke shaft kit for $80 which is a little high for me. Places online I've found say is no longer available. Any help would be appreciated.

The throttle shaft kits are expensive compared to a rebuild kit. A word of advice from someone that just recently rebuilt three of the old kohler carbs. When you buy a throttle shaft kit buy not one but two of them. One of the shaft kits had a shaft with elliptical threaded holes for fastening the throttle butterfly to it. I would not allow the supplied screws to thread into the shaft. If you order only one, examine it before you leave the store! If I remember correctly I paid only 30bucks apiece.

A local Cub Cadet dealer is supposed to be a Kohler dealer, but they said they couldn't do it because Deere has the rights to the spec number on my engine. Is there another way to get them the info they need? A local JD dealer that only deals with the new lawn tractors is also supposed to be a kohler dealer, but they couldn't find anything except a whole carb. My usual Deere dealer isn't listed as a Kohler dealer and could only find the $80 kit I talked about above.

Todd, I'll defer to Stan and any 140 owner on what may be special about that carb., but I'd say to take the carb. with you even if you have already taken the shaft out. If you have a Deere dealer close by ask if they have part # AM106871 and compare it to your shaft. Even with the shaft still installed, you should be able to tell if it will work. It's in a plastic bag and they won't even have to open it. You may have to buy the threaded ball link also if yours has a rivited one it. You'll want new screws too. I'm pretty sure this pt. # just has a hole in the top. My dealer lists it at $10.30. It may be completely wrong as it is listed for 214 and 314 engines.
If you have a Kohler dealer closer, as Stan said, they probably will be able to fix you up. Take that carb., and the spec. number on the engine just in case. May even be less cost.
What ever you find, let us know. That $80 kit must be a humdinger!
Don't forget, Wheelhorse, Cub Cadet, Jacobson, and many others used Kohler "K" series engines if you need to find a Kohler dealer.

Jim Smith: I'm not at the location where my records are right now. When I get back over there I will take a look at what the number on the package was. Because of the low price, I was expecting to receive an aftermarket kit, but when it came in it was a Kohler! I can tell you that it fit perfectly in the #30 carb on my 1972 140H3. All I had to do was take the throttle lever off of my old shaft and put it on the new shaft.

Yes, it's the bottom of the steering column. Its got 4 or 5 lines going to it and was told it might be an o-ring there. Looks like 2 bolts holding them all in place. Was wondering if I had to pull radiator to fix this? Looks pretty tight up up there
