What to do w/P218G?

I picked the pictured Onan up at auction for parts ... still had the electric PTO clutch. Figured it had a busted rod, but as it turns out both sides have compression. So I'd like to know why it had been removed. I assume I could get a decent compression test after installing a starter and I can test the coil measurements w/multimeter. If I hook up a battery and provide current to the coil, can I test the ignition control module per 240-20-18 in the TM1590 manual? Anything else? Thx, Bryan.

Maybe check if intake valve seats are solid and the valve clearances before compression test?

I wonder why they took it out / apart if it had compression?
