Luke, did you have any luck finding a driveshaft? I have 3 or 4 of them laying around that I do not know what they are from. Never owned a 430 so more than likely they are not 430 but if you show me a photo and some details willing to see if one one them will work for you ... Gabby

I believe one from a 400 would work too. I haven’t found one. The deck end is not splined on the shaft I need. It looks like the length of the shaft while it’s closed is about 16 1/2” to 17” Thanks!

Found one driveshaft that is marked as being used for 425 rotary broom. I looked up that part number ... AM124745 ... $709.86 usd. Ouch.

It is same length with splined end that attaches to tractor and unsplined on deck/broom. Does not appear to have a key way. Photo comparison is on 50" deck for my 420.

That might work… the 420 and 430 use the same deck gearbox. Does it look like it’d work?

Length looks ok. I can see if the splined end fits on the front shaft on my 420. The only questionable part is will the fit the mower deck without a keyway and will the roll pin be hardy enough to handle the mower deck?

Good question. Does it fit your deck gearbox? Or it you won’t feel like trying you could measure the ID of it and I can measure my gearbox input shaft.

Luke, busy with yard work then out for supper yesterday. I will test fitup on 420 today.

Compared the two shafts.

• The splined end of the driveshaft I have does fit onto the the pulley on the front of a 420 parts tractor I have. We know that is good.
• I checked the deck end of the driveshaft and can guarantee there is no key way. will only drive the mower deck with the roll pin. I find that tough to believe it is powerful enough to power a broom.
• Gearbox input shaft and driveshaft ID both measure approx one inch.
• Both driveshafts measure approx 18.5" closed
• The broom driveshaft has longer extended length.
• Mower deck yokes are longer than the yoke on the broom driveshaft. Deck driveshaft the yoke and are larger and appear to be more robust.

No key and lighter components would make me a little leery of using this driveshaft. It would be more inexpensive than Deere part but still if driveshaft broke you will be back where you started.
