What do you guys think of this, it was my great grandfathers and now its mine. My 1976 John Deere 300. Its in pretty good condition but could use a few things, ill make updates when I get around to doing the repairs I would like to do.
I love my 332 but my 300 has been working for me for 15 years after spending $50 on it it sitting in a field.I've had my 300 since 1986, rebuilt the engine in 2000. I've got a 33 tiller, 54 blade, like new 48C deck that I don't use anymore, a 47blower and Brinley 1 bottom plow. This tractor has never let me down. Sadly I will be retiring and moving and will have to sell it. my wife said I'd get rid of her before I sold it lol. I was given a 318 that I went through and use only with the snow blower now which will also have to go unless whoever buys my place wants these tractors too. I mow now with a 925A zero turn. I grew up in a Deere dealership and worked service, parts and sales for JD for a good part of my life.
My 300 looks to be in about the same shape as that one. Awesome machines.
Would you be interested in selling the front hub caps by chance?
nope LOL but I'm always looking for a deal on the rears! my great grandfather took them off to have weights and at some point and they never made it back on LOLWould you be interested in selling the front hub caps by chance?
unfortunately the only original paint is the hood... my great grandfather at some point repainted it with what he had, a bucket of John Deere green and a brush. it looks ok from a few feet back but due to all the runs and the rust bubbles (I believe he did it in the early 00s) above the wheels, she could use another repaint. not the hood though, that original paint will be staying around. this tractor was used to mow his grass every week for around 47 years, the good old k341 could use a refresh as it smokes and has a slight knock. I love it how it is but I would love to be able to use it for years to come to cut my grass and someday pass it on to my children.400 - that is a great looking tractor and knowing the family history makes it even that much more of a prized possession.
As mentioned earlier, give the tractor a good bath and then if you want to be amazed at the finish quality after all these years, give it a good coat of wax or two and watch the colors come back to full brilliance. Nothing better than shiny original green and yellow paint on a tractor of that vintage and admiring the machine while thinking about the pride the original owner had when they purchased it new. Enjoy making new memories with it.
