In case it hasn't been posted- there was a huge mower salvage yard in Seneca Falls, NY operated by Paul Jackson. He passed away and the entire inventory
was bought by a nearby auto salvage yard, who crushed and sold everything for scrap. I visited there last week and there is nothing left. Too bad for all of us!!
A public auction would have been great, but no one was interested in going that way.

I have not read all the posts in this thread so information may duplicate other replies.
Try to develop a relationship with your local John Deere salesman as they may see broken tractors come in on trade-ins. They can let you know if they get something that might interest you. Also I have had good luck at "Joe the small engine repair man's shops". Sometimes they get a tractor that the customer decides will cost too much to repair and just leave it there at shop. Got my 318 that way, it had a broken piston rod and crank case and the shop actually had a new crank case and the parts I needed to repair it, they just didn't have the time or manpower to put it all back together so i got a smoking deal on 318 with MCS and other attachments. Of course you can also post a wanted ad on craigslist for whatever you're looking for. Be sure to post it in both the wanted section and for sale section.

Happy trails!!!

Found another one today driving thru Michigan:

Floyd's Outdoor Power Small Engine Repair
1275 Randall St
Coopersville, MI 4
9404 - Muskegon/Grand Rapids Area
PH 616-837-72
95

This guy has what looks like 200 garden tractors - maybe half of them old JD's. All in various stages of assembly. He also said he had 150 others that he didn't have room for on that lot.

Anyone else who knows of places like this please post with general location............. thx
that guy is on Ebay and is almost as nuts in his pricing as Joe's Outdoor Power is, also from Michigan.

"Almost Heaven" located in Downtown Bluffton, Indiana 46714
Visits are by appointment ONLY! So call for an appointment first.

The guy was nice in person and on the phone. Be prepared for sticker shock! His prices are pretty much full retail for anything he has. And you have to pull the part!!

It may not be a salvage yard but if you're looking for a project to flip or generally nothing too special (just tractor with mower deck), I will check my local small engine shops. The ones in town are usually not willing to part with anything and most of their stock is awaiting payment from customers, but if I go to the shops out in B.F.E. they are usually more than willing to make a sale. They are the ones where the customer can't afford to fix their mower and they just leave it there. Other than that I don't have any lawn tractor specific junk yards.
