Are the 86-87 200 series affected by the change?

The 200 series used 1" spindles to the end of production. The parts catalog does not list a 25mm bearing for the 200 series.

Do you know if the bearing OD's are the same on the 1" and 25mm bearings? If they are, this would allow you to switch bearings and still use the same wheels.

The 1" ID bearing pn AM102605 has an OD of 2".

The 25mm ID bearing pn AM102888 has an OD of 52mm or 2.047".

So you cannot use the standard wheels with a metric bearing or vice versa.

Also I forgot to add, the 420 and 430 SN started over in 1990 with SN 010001 and use the 25mm spindles.

I have seen some folks try. It is a sloppy fit and it will create accelerated wear on the spindle over time. That combination is just not a good idea and I would not do it on any of my tractors. So "NO" I would not recommend that combination.

The next question someone is going to ask is if they can shim the bearings to the spindle. I am sure someone will do that. But again, I would not do that to any of my tractors.

The only right way is to get the correct parts for your tractor SN. If anyone needs wheels/bearings let me know and I can get you correct parts or at least the PN.

I just bought a nice set of newer front rims for my 318 s/n 222135 if memory serves. My spindles are 1". My purchased rims came off of a '90s era machine. I haven't swapped them out yet (thank goodness).

47/1000ths is a lot of slop. I guess that was a bad purchase. I don't suppose a bearing is available with a 1" ID and a 52 mm OD? No, I thought not.

When I get some slack time at the parts counter I will look for a "Conversion bearing" for lack of a better description. If I can locate such a bearing I will post the info here.

On that table of bearings it looks like the 6205-2RK-1" L/T bearing is the correct ID, OD and Width. However, it does not indicate if that bearing has the flange or clip on the OD. I think a phone call would be in order before buying anything. I spent some time looking around the Timken web site today but I have not yet found a Convesion bearing.

 

No worries. I haven't had my wheels off to see what is necessary. I figured there would be a flange on the bearing. I won't be buying anything unless you give it the seal of approval - or I figure out what I'm doing.

I suppose a wide enough bearing could have a slot cut on a lathe and a OD spring clip installed - more scrounging for parts and finding a machinist at work willing to do a "government job".

At this point I am happy that such a "Conversion Bearing" is possible.

I have some updated info to add to this post. I have not found a conversion wheel bearing. BUT, I did find out that the front axle casting is the same between the standard and metric spindle models. This means you can switch between 1" and 25mm spindles simply by changing the spindle bushings in the front axle casting.

M83541 axle bushing accepts standard 1" spindles.

M70808 axle bushing accepts 25mm spindles.

This applies to the late model 316, 318, 330, 420 and 430 tractors. And you have to have the appropriate spindles as well.
