The sight glass is mounted to a fixed bracket and the hydro oil is supposed to be in the middle of the sight glass when at the correct level. Also the original clear hose I had on my tractor turned quite yellow from discoloration from the HY Gard LV oil over time. Without a sight glass it would have been nearly impossible to see what the actual level was. HyGard LV is almost clear when clean.

Ha, must be winter...we should be playing with our tractors not writing a novel on sight hose.

But Mike, I was out playing with my tractor. Finding I couldn't get the snap rings off the Hydro couplers without causing a lot of pain, I instead, did my best to clean them out, and finding what at first sight looked like rust, was just hardened grease. I cleaned them with a small wire brush, picks, and other small implements, washed them out with blaster and ended up with pristine looking couplers. So, my FEL will be here in the morning and I'll be just so happy.

Richard, Oh, and I checked my Hygard with the black hose and sight glass and it was full!

AJ, since I was around my 318 when it was new in 87, Im sure...I suppose the dealer could have changed it, but why?

On the level, as long as its in between the bracket, the level is fine, hose length wont change the level shown in the tube, or where the tube is supposed to be. I suppose if someone could find a clear tube that would remain clear, that would be ideal...

As far as the hose color, I guess whatever floats everyones boat. Ill stick to the cheap black stuff...

Hmm interesting Jim.
I have had 2 318's,2 322's,1 332 and a 430 and all had clear hose.
But you have the upper hand of seeing yours since new.

Calvin, its not vented, and that causes extremely slow filling. There is a way to vent it, and someone here sold a fitting for it, I think its a T fitting that goes just above the sight glass, and had a rubber cap on the T that you could remove to let the air out and allow for a faster fill, and in turn lessen the possibility of spilled hydro fluid all over the place from the fill tube backing up.

The other way to vent it is to take off the hose above the sight tube.Once fluid gets in the sight tube reconnect the hose.

Jim,
Thanks for the info. I believe the tubing I have in mind will remain clear.

Bill,
My tractor is at my country home, in Warren County, so I guess I'll get my own beer.

Everybody else,
OK, if you think this has gone too far, I do too, bye.

Jim,

The plastic 90 degree fitting on the top of the transmission case for the fill hose has a small hole drilled in it I believe.

Karl

I hope I did not offend.
I certainly did not mean any harm.We are here to help but sometimes go too far with sarcasm.
Sorry if I offended you.

Jim

Rick is here now and he says the tubing is clear.
And if you want to argue we will sick Doug on you.

Nor did I with my sometimes sick sense of humor.

But, my Or-Bilt loader was delivered this afternoon, hooked up and the couplers that I worked on to make so nice and clean, did not leak one drop of the Hygard that I saw in the clear glass tube between two pieces of black tubing. ;-)

Never have I seen so Much said about so little. LOL.
Like some one said above, it's a frickin' HOSE...get over it....LOL
I threw away my see through hose because it was yellow and hard, I replaced it with automotive fuel line hose and now it looks just like Aarons.
It didn't take me very many posts to realize no matter how light hearted I try to be and I try to add humor in a lot of my comments, Sarcasm and humor does not read like it is intended in posts and emails. They will always be people who get offended no matter what is said or how it is presented. Some can't even agree to disagree. A lot of people read open websites like this and have their opinions that undoubtedly will be different from what is posted.
So with that said, if I offended anyone here...never mind..LOL

Have a great day everyone.
