I have some clear 1/4" Fuel hose Im going to use on my 400. Currently it does not have the Vent/Filter showed in the diagram #2. I ordered it to install since it's noted in the diagram and I dont have a dipstick, is it necessary? I havent run my 400, yet, I'm still waiting to find time to install my Vangaurd 23 hp SEW engine.

I just use the 1/4” ID clear vinyl tubing sold in the big box stores. Saves on shipping and I get it same day.

I got my tubing at the Deere dealer, it tasted just like clear PVC. (kidding) I put the glass back in just because it wasn't broke when I freed it from it's bracket. All's well in the world for a number of years now. Ask for Tygon around here and they speak to me in Klingon...I just don't get it...

This is what the stuff i used looks like. This was on the new to me 318 last week. This brings up a question. Do these open framed 300 series have a fuel filter style vent like on the earlier closed frame 317's etc?

The 318 tubing is looped around to go back into the top of the housing. That makes it a closed loop;). As for any vent...I don't think it has one which is why the hydraulics are unbearably slow to fill. However, putting a vent in the line isn't a bad idea since it's not pressurized.

Good to know. That is how I installed it but the upper hose was gone before I replaced it which is why I was not sure. Thank you Randy.

that sight tube is like new. mine is completely clouded...can't see the oil inside at all. think I'm gonna just run the line straight thru the bracket.
