Worst case he has a 3 piece kit that doesn't require pulling the driveshaft.

Ok! Here is the latest info. and introductory price on the kits. May have to change price later due to quite heavy weight of the kit and need to check out alternative shipping methods.

As of today have available for immediate shipment another new kit (a 16 gauge plate) I have designed to reduce the size of the opening for these newer V2 style engines. See photos attached. It is quite heavy and has to be shipped separately from the firewall insulation. I have two versions of this kit. One is precut with 9 inch opening for the fan, if that is what you need. It is centered on the same height for the driveshaft as the 318 original ONAN. The other plate kit has no hole cut out so you can fine tune the driveshaft height and the diameter of the opening if your's is different. Perfect fit for jd 316/318 or 420 repower projects needed to reduce the diameter of the firewall opening for re-power engines. And easy!

This plate can be welded to the original firewall, which really strengthens the firewall, or simply pop-riveted or bolted to the metal firewall. both options are fine.

The new option for the jd316-jd318 is for those of you who want to use the S.E.W. kits which mount the Vanguard engine with the driveshaft one inch lower than the original ONAN. I suspect this is to give more clearance for the muffler they use.

So if you want to go that way, you can now buy a conversion plate with the 9" hole cut one inch lower, see the attached two photos for comparison. Price of this new plate is same. $20.00 will cover the plate and priority mail shipping in the lower USA with tracking.

I bought one of John's kits for my 420. Easy to install, fits just right, and reasonably priced. I'm just adding my recommendation.

I bought the 318 insulation that I put on a modified 318 firewall which I installed on a 317.
I too recommend this kit, it is at least equal if not superior to the oem stuff but at half the cost.
