hey guys have a problem I have an onan p218g that I just reringed pistons, crankshaft, cylinder walls all measured great.Honed cylinders and reassembled with all new gaskets and seals. When I got ready to install camshaft I noticed the block was missing the little soft plug on the right side of camshaft.I posted on this site earlier weather it was suppose to have one or not.A gentleman named Joe responded that yes indeed it was suppose to have one because that was the soft plug that keeps the oil pressure regulated and without it the engine would have low oil pressure.I ordered 2 from sears and installed the soft plug when I started the engine it blew the oil filter gasket out (WHAT A MESS).So I pulled the cam took out the plug reassembled the engine and she ran like a champ for over an hour on my test stand.Worried that missing the plug would hurt the engine and thinking maybe I just twisted the oil filter gasket I pulled the cam again and reinstalled the 2nd soft plug. When I started the engine it blew the oil filter gasket again. So my question is are those soft plugs on all p218g engines or do I have another problem causing them to blow.I checked the pressure regulating valve and it is functioning properly and not stuck. My engine is one with the breather attached to the block with the little balls in the breather. The reason Im stating this is I went to my neighbors who had an exact block and it too was missing that soft plug.
